6 Black-Owned Businesses HBCU Students Should Shop

In honor of Black History Month, we’ve compiled a list of Black-owned businesses students will love to shop.

One of the most direct and sustainable ways to support the Black community, especially during Black History Month, is to shop at Black-owned businesses. Now it‘s well-known that most HBCU college students don’t have an insane amount of money to blow a bag just anywhere, so here’s a list of six Black-owned businesses that are either in the budget or well worth the price tag. Check them out below.

  • HBCU Legacy Fashion

HBCU Legacy Fashion, founded by North Carolina A&T University alumna Cheylaina Fultz, is a fashion brand for children of proud HBCU graduates. It’s also for HBCU alumni looking to rock something stylish that reps their alma mater.

The company was created in hopes to build awareness, pride, and spark interest in obtaining a higher education from an HBCU.

  • Topicals

Topicals is a skincare brand that treats chronic skin conditions like eczema and hyperpigmentation. The company works with an advisory board of dermatologists to include ingredients and herbals in its products that are scientifically-backed by peer-reviewed clinical studies. So whether you’re having a breakout because of stress or just want to keep your skin on point, this brand is great to have in your routine.

  • The Honey Pot Company

Every college girl knows the struggle of finding the best, natural products for managing things “down there.”

Bea Dixon created this brand of plant-derived feminine products after struggling with bacterial vaginosis for eight months. For those looking for more natural menstrual products, The Honey Pot Company sells a variety of pads, tampons, vaginal washes, wipes, and more.

  • LORVAE

LORVAE is a sunglasses line created by Youtuber and social media influencer De’arra Taylor. These are shades you‘ll get plenty of compliments about on campus.

  • Desirée Iyama

Desirée Iyama is a womenswear brand created in Lagos, Nigeria. It offers made-to-measure and personalized contemporary clothing for any occasion, which is great if you want to stand out in class, at a party, or just hanging out on the yard.

  • Brandon Blackwood New York

Brandon Blackwood New York is a handbags and accessories company. Celebrities like Beyoncé, City Girls, and Saweetie have all been spotted with BB gems. Why not a college hottie? Elevate your bag game with a Brandon Blackwood staple you and onlookers will surely love.
