YTB Fatt Will Not Be Denied

The West Memphis native is staking his claim as one of the rappers poised to make a major impact in 2024.

In the rap game, YTB Fatt (YTB stands for "Young Track Boy”) is an emerging rapper who has been steadily making a name for himself on the scene. Born and raised in West Memphis, Arkansas, Fatt’s songs about growing up as a hustler on the streets, overcoming personal hardships, and surviving it all has him going into the summer with momentum.

Although making music was not Fatt’s original plan, he has grown into a truly unique MC and is preparing to leave an impact on the industry.

“I just kept making music with a friend of mind. He ended up going to jail in 2019 when we first started,” Fatt told BET.com. “So I had to take it seriously.”

The same year, Fatt dropped several independent singles, including "Come & Get Me," "In My City," and "At the Store" featuring Bankroll Freddy that began to circulate. Eventually, he created a buzz in his region that catapulted him into an underground star on the rise.

If his skills and grind in the game weren’t enough, receiving the endorsement from and being discovered by Moneybag Yo solidified him as a major player in the making.

Displaying enormous potential, in January 2023, he inked a deal with Moneybagg Yo’s Bread Gang label. Fatt relocated to Miami and began working on his debut mixtape, 2023's Who Is Fatt, released in August 2023. He spoke about how the Bread Gang boss changed his life.

“My whole hood was on Moneyback hard so the hood really couldn’t believe it when he came and got me. I couldn’t believe it either. I was playing his music in the ninth grade when he first dropped a mixtape. I remember it like it was yesterday. I used to play basketball and I would be warming up to his music. And for him to come and grab me with a bag was crazy," Fatt recalled.

According to the story, one of Fatt’s cousins had a relationship with Moneybag, and it seemed destined for them to begin making music together.

“They were trying to come up with a name for a weed strand,” Fatt recalled. “When I first got around I would never talk. I would just stay quiet and study everything. I overheard them talking about what they wanted to name the weed strand and somebody said ‘Shout Off Gumbo.”

“So I went and made a song called “Shout Off Gumbo” when I was in Miami. When Bagg heard it, he said we should name the weed strand that. Then, Bagg said that he wanted to hop on it,” he continued. “Then Fat Wizza got on it and it was a go from there.

"I was gambling and selling weed so I could keep going to a studio. At the studio, they knew I had the weed," he said. " I had a mixtape with nothing but trap sh*t and gangster sh*t. He felt like I would be a good fit with him."

For his latest offering, he teams up with Philly native Quanny on "I Did It.” Featuring booming 808s and a haunting piano bassline, Fatt and Quanny’s chemistry is on full display with their distinctive styles full of braggadocio bars. Fatt shared how he linked up with Quanny to create the street banger.

Yo Gotti was having a studio session and he invited me to come with him. When I went to the studio, Quann was in there and I said to Gotti, ‘Who’s this?” He told me it was Quanny and played me like 10 songs. That’s how we met in L.A.”

“I told him that I wanted to lock in with him and he wanted to lock in with me,” he continued. “We met up in New York and we made the song.”

To capitalize on his growing popularity, he recently launched his Foxes Only Tour, with dates across the South that kicked off on April 11 in Charlotte, NC, performing sold-out shows in Houston, Atlanta, and wrapping up in San Antonio, TX on May 2. Fatt expressed his excitement about heading out on the read.

“I've been on about six tours but this is the first one that I’m headlining. This sh*t is about to be crazy. My first date out was in Charlotte and it was sold out,” he said. “I can’t wait to go to the other cities and see the fans.”

Outside of his penchant for telling stories about his experiences that have resonated with so many of his fans, Fatt’s work ethic is unmatched. He said he rarely hangs out but is committed to making as much music as he can. He’s out to prove he’s a worthy addition to the Bread Gang family.

“I’m always in the studio,” Fatt explained. “I’m a stay making music too. I’m a stay on it.”
