Beyoncé Sends Her New Friend Tyler Flowers, a Gift And a Note Proclaiming Their Friendship

"This story begins far beyond the mountains and the shadows, on the other side of the light. A lion was born without a drop of nobility in his blood. A lion who would change our lives forever," says the voiceover in the tease. "The earth will shake. Destiny awaits you."

Beyoncé will reprise her role as Nala from the 2019 live-action "Lion King" alongside Donald Glover as Simba. Her daughter, Blue Ivy, will portray Kiara, the daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala. The cast also includes Aaron Pierre as the voice of Mufasa and Tiffany Boone as Sarabi.

Barry Jenkins, known for award-winning films "If Beale Street Could Talk" and "Moonlight," discussed what inspired him to give Mufasa an origin story.

"The journey of this film is kind of understanding how someone can build a family out of these very disparate parts," he told the outlet. He also hopes this will inspire "how people who may be alone can find strength by coming together."

His connection to the classic 1994 tale was rooted in his taking up residence with his sister, watching her raise her two sons as a single mom.

"It's the first time you see children really process grief in a way that is very direct and blunt, and yet the film presents it in a way that they're made whole," he explained. "So it had this very special meaning for me. That was a really hard time for my sister and I, but this was something that was really beautiful."

"Mufasa: The Lion King" is slated to premiere on December 20.
